I think we should all put together and buy it. I'll put £100 towards it.

Or just to attach a ridiculous pricetag because it looks like one worth more.

From the link above: "In rally spec. the turbocharged 1.8-litre unit pumped out a scary 450bhp, so was sensibly tamed down to 200bhp for the road versions. However, when combined with an all up weight of just 1,145 kilos, this was still sufficient to achieve a supercar-humbling 0-60mph time of 6 seconds and a terminal speed of 130mph"

- Liitle surprised by this, 200bhp is nothing really these days... If this is the case, Toms 1.6 Turbo would be quicker than a standard T16.

Looking at in gear acceleration times a 1.9 Gti is actually quicker as the road t16 suffers turbo lag.

It didn't really matter about the speed of the road going t16, they were only produced to homologate the car and allow for the 20 works cars to C1-C20 to be used in anger.

Very true and further, a well driven standard 8v engined GTi with a few suspension tweaks will just about keep up with a well driven road T16 even with a little more than standard power, and a 16v would be all over it.

They're heavy. It takes two people to safely lift the rear clam alone, for reference. But don't get me wrong, they're still pretty special, just not sure why they seem to be demanding much higher prices than they were a few years ago.
