Crankshaft Sensor

Hi just a quick question,

 

Ive been searching and have become confused! I have a intermittent starting problem that I think 1 of the possible causes could be the crank sensor. The bit I'm confused by is weather or not the sensor could be a cause as some search results have said a faulty sensor would result in no spark or fuel and others say the sensor is fitted but not connected.

 

Could someone tell me for sure if it is used on a 1.9 gti and if a faulty sensor would result in no spark.

is it on Jetronic? if so they don't use one.

 

is it an intermittent problem? check the lead from the distributor to the ignition amplifier, also the connections to the coil.

Yes its jetronic.

 

Yea only happens if the cars been sat a few days and even then its hit or miss, but when it wont start im not getting a spark from the coil so i will check all the connections and earths involved and see what happens.
