New Os Driveshaft And Now No Drive?

Recommended Posts

Lucky Gti

I have just fitted a second hand long driveshaft to my 1.6 GTi as the old one was knocking like crazy. All bolted up fine, topped up the gearbox and no leaks, jump in and start up, put it in gear and nothing? Jacked up the front of the car, span both wheels and wheels and shafts turn on their own, stuck it in gear and still nothing even off the ground?

Any ideas as I'm at a bit of a loss!

There's likely to be a buildup of corrosion on the intermediate bearing carrier not letting the bearing seat properly, or its the wrong shaft.

Are the gears in the differential dislodgable on some of the older gearboxes? I wonder if you have accidently mangled your diff when inserting the shaft (oooerrr!)?

i would also check the end of the shaft/splines as some of them of late seam to be supplied wrong.
