Thead Type On Oil Cooler Pipe From Heat Exchanger

Recommended Posts

swervygerdy

Hi Folks

I was servicing my 1.9 gti 8v and noticed oil weeping from the oil cooler pipes at the heat exchanger. I removed the pipes and discovered the 'o' seal was missing, so replaced the seal and refitted the two pipes. Unfortnately one of the 19mm retaining nuts went in on the wrong thread. I've managed to damage the thread in the body of the heat exchanger. It looks like alloy, im hoping I can retap it.

Does anyone know the thread type so i can purchase the correct tap?

Many thanks

Gerard

I cannot remember now, but I know they are an oddball metric thread. To be honest it will be probably cheaper and easier to just get hold of a second hand 1.9 GTI sandwich plate, a tap will probably be getting on for £20 on its own.
