J4R Head To Sequential Injection

Little browsing with servicebox and I found that EW10J4S uses the same retainer (0951 47) and stem seal (0956 45) with different spring (0952 A4). Only downside is that the springs are triple the price compared to J4R/JP4 springs

 

edit: If this is true http://www.catcams.b...tup49016xx1.htm then the EW10J4 spring (0952 90) would be perfect as is can handle more lift and third of the price! (okay, it has less spring pressure than the 0952 A4)

 

You will find in servicebox that J4R heads have come with 0951.47, 0951.36 and even 0951.35 retainers. And JP4 heads with .47 and .36.

Now, all JP4 and J4R as well as J4RS (as I recently found out) I´ve either seen or stripped down... have come with 0951.36 retainer... which is different than 0951.47 as in EW10J4S. How much different wouldn´t know.

BTW, I´m not sure since I do not have a spare GTI6 double springs to play with, but given the info in the Peugeot´s repair manual... JP4/J4R springs seem to be a little bit harder (higher spring rate) than the double RS ones... since I cannot measure them... I can´t be 100% positive, but that´s what it says on the manuals... so I can´t see how they will not work with RS cams and even the installed height is the same.

The .36 retainer seems to be for the older model (with the aluminium cam covers), the newer model (with the plastic cam covers) has same retainers as the EW10J4S (0951 47). I don't know either the difference with these, just browsing with servicebox.

I´m afraid not. About 10 JP4 or J4R heads I´ve stripped down were late models and had 6mm stems, plastic covers and .36 retainer...

 

Things could be different down here.... but I don´t think so in this case...
