What Insert Fabric Is This ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

A customer of mine sent me a picture of his ' 87 Cti (1.6) along with the trim. I don't know this particular insert type/style.

Any ideas anyone.?

probably a bit of an intellectual exercise but it would be nice to categorise it.

regards

Dave

I can't see the picture but that year car came with 'biarritz' trim - very fragile and most have disintegrated by now.

Have look on ebay.fr for 205 biarritz.

This was phase 1 GTI and CTI trim that changed to the tweed type (in GTIs anyhow) in 1988 with phase 1.5's.

Hope this helps.

EDIT - just seen the picture and stiil stand by the view above.

Hi,

thanx for your reply. I wondered if it was but decided it was too pale.

The picture I have of Biarritz inserts looks like this:

seemed much"redder".

Must be a UV fade thing.

Dave

Thank you both,

I think that pretty well confirms it  .

Presumably cloth bolsters as well.

I can't , and I don't know who can. It follows the usual routine I'm afraid. Non of the PUG insert materials are currently manufactured by anyone. I am still working on my new "Quartet" fabric trying it out to see how it wears, washes etc in order to convince myself it won't fall to bits in 5 minutes. The test seats I re-covered have been in daily use for 2 months now and It's looking good so far. It has encouraged me to contact a textile test lab to formalise the tests. This will then enable me to proceed another step further.

regards

Dave

Ok great I look forward to the results!

With these seats shown the bolster cloth material is different to others I have seen. It is sort of ribbed. Is this material about do you know? As for me these areas are worn more than the inserts.
