Which System To Choose?

Recommended Posts

thomasrally

Currently running twin 40's and standard dizzy setup although I'm sending the dizzy off to H&H Ignition Solutions this week to be recurved although looking to possibly move to mapped ignition and *possibly* throttle bodies further down the line if I decide to keep the car.

With the above in mind I'm looking for recommendations so any feedback would be helpful, thanks ;)

If you're after advice on ITB's Jenvey are a popular choice, as for management I'd recommend Omex and a decent mapper.

Don't waste money on a remapped dizzy then. Just fork out the extra for a new ECU and run ignition only for the time being, if you can afford it.

That's pretty much what Torque of the Devil told me when I went for a mapping session with them, the UI is crude and a bit fussy to use, (and personal experience confirms this) if Dave Walker doesn't like your car he won't put the effort in. My rather shonky looking 205 gets a frown from him every time I've been up there and, although I pay for a full day's mapping every time, he tries to get it done within an hour or so with a very "that'll do" attitude. I've never been happy with the service from him tbh, I tried to get a free re-map after my last session as the car was undriveable at part throttle! Ended up going to TotD instead and had a much better experience!

Another Omex fan here, can reccomned Northampton Motprosport for their mapping skills. They will admit that their rollers are on the conservative side though so I wouldn't worry if the numbers look a little lower than expected.

As long as you managed to sort it out at another mapper who is used to it or willing to spend the time to map it then it sounds like it's the attitude of the particular mapper that's the problem.

The guy wasn't too familiar with the Emerald software as he worked mainly with Omex, but he certainly did a good job of sorting it out. It's never going to be brilliant with cams on a standard plenum but it's a lot better.

Did you ever speak to Dave about it after it was sorted out? It would be good just for the sake of it to see what his response would be...

To be honest I couldn't be bothered.. I couldn't see what good it would do other than vent my frustration.

Guys would I see a benefit/improvement having my standard dizzy remapped until I get myself management?

It could be a few months before I buy something and a dizzy remap is only like £30

For the sake of 30 notes - yes.

I, too, had a wonderful set up on my 205 TT, using an OMEX 600. It was excellent and the guys at OMEX were incredibly helpful and experienced. However, it developed a fault and the ECU was sent back to OMEX.

And that is when the Customer Support really let me down. A real shame, given my previous experience.

They could not find a single fault. It then was lost in the post and a replacement unit was sent to me.

That unit behaved in exactly the same manner as the unit I'd sent them! So, it went to an ECU specialist, who found a bad solder on the main board & a faulty injector driver.
