Anyone Else Not Using Their 205 Enough?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

It's insurance renewal time for my red 205, its a limited mileage policy so very easy to see the mileage I do in the car each year.

In the last 12 months I have done 1398 miles! That includes a trip to the Nurburging and back so that's 940 odd miles already accounted for in the the travelling to and from. This means that I did 458 'fun' miles in the car, wtf.

It makes me realise how little I use the car.

If someone else could share their stories of underusing perfectly good working cars I might feel slightly better.

Red turbo 205 April 10 to April 11 I did 1482 miles. If it makes you feel any better the car was taxed for the full 12 months and useable for the majority of it.

White 205 probably even worse, 14 laps of the Nurburgring, and a day at both Cadwell Park and Oulton Park.....and to and from on the trailer.

Usage of my 205 tends to vary tremendously from year to year - one year it'll do 20k miles p/a and then the next it'll do a tenth of that.

I tend to find myself doing less and less driving for "fun" these days owing to several factors, not least of all petrol costs, and hence the miles I do in my 205 really depends on how much I commute in it. The past couple of years now I've had the 306 HDi which is ideal for slogging up and down the motorway, and hence the poor 205 tends to spend far too much time unused.

This year has been worse than usual for 205 use, as I bought the Eunos (MX5) in January and I've been using that when I'd typically have been using the 205.

Still, no intention of not having a 205 in my life, hence I'm in the middle of a restoration/overhall of my '92 GTi with an aim to make it fit for several years of troublefree use :)

I'm not using mine as much as i'd like to tbh, but then most don't work at the moment... :(

I have a habit of buying cars around winter time and end up with other cars to use rather than 205's, unless just for fun on the odd occasion! Which is a shame in a way!

With your fleet of cars Baz, I'm not surprised you are spread so thin :P .

Is that 12 cars I have counted on your sig? I'm jealous.

 It is, but not anything to be jealous of tbh! They're shared between Dad & I and most are in bits anyway!

The Sorrento & Goodwood are essentially gone, the red 77k 205 is half Donor'd too, so i really must update it! In fact, i'll do that now... Plus a few more are going asap, 406, blue & green V70's & Dad's buying me out of the 'R as i'm still after an M5! How's the 530d?

Tbh there's only the Miami, 406, V70R & green V70 on the road/working at the moment & i'm really enjoying using the Miami again recently! :D

I rarely have the energy to drive 205s any more. I've lost the flame of driving as I do so many miles in the works van.

Mine has travelled only 40 miles since 2002 and that was when it was on tow a few months ago.

I have got an MOT booked for Saturday, so should start racking up the miles soon, if it can gain a test certificate...and while I am at the dealers I have booked a test drive in a 107 !!!

Well i use mine every day, just to balance things out :) Short commute though less than 2 miles each way, but use it plenty at weekends.

I saved myself £75 today by reducing the annual milage down from 3,000 to 1,500 per annum with the insurance company. I have had the car 5 years now and only done 5,000 since owning it. I plan on putting my other 205 on the road this year too, lord knows what each car will do milage wise with then.

It's been taxed for a year ending tonight, i've driven it for about 3.5-4 weeks in total.

It's been in pieces, blown up or something up with it.

Now on the 5th generation of this bloody f*cking 6 engine. WHY DIDN'T I GET A MI!

Been doing ridiculous miles in the 205 diesel, been having alot more fun to be honest, it's reliable, does good mpg and have 309gti wishbones on it :)

I've driven my new one twice since I bought it, due to a knackered gearbox and dead alternator! That's all going to change in the next 3 weeks though, I want it to be my daily over the summer. :)

I have a choice of models, a 23 year old, a 21 year old and I keep a 22 year old topless in the garage. I use at least one every day and can often be found lying under at least one of them :) (And I'm 45!!)

J285KAM has done 126 miles in a year. Fully insured. The MOT and tax has slipped so I must get her out soon and stick a ticket on her. Just want the correct PS bottle bracket and I will dig her out. I know a crappy bracket is no reason not to drive it, but my mind is made up!

You should't complain at least you have a 205 and a possibility to drive it, others don't have one ;)
