How To Remove A 205 Windscreen.

Recommended Posts

SurGie

Hi Members,

Well after reading a few posts about removing the windscreen iv tried a few of the ideas but iv still got no where.

Here is one corners inner seal slightly out VV

Iv tried to use string but it was too thin so tried washing line type. I tried to feed the washing line string through with no luck and very sore finger tips  VV

I tried the 2p method but was not sure which side of the seal to put them, here is a picture of the inside of the seal VV

Can some one help guide me to the best way of removing the screen without smashing it using the above pics to help explain the guide ?

Cheers :)

Push it with your feet from the inside, in the corner.

I tried that on an old GTI in 2005 and it cracked even though i was careful. I'm determined to get it out in perfect condition.

WD40 then, hmm i have a feeling that would work if i sprayed a bit behind the inner seal edge, so it just slides off when pushing with my feet.

Like i said, iv tried all the other ways people do this job and they are a bit of hassle, wasted an hour then i got so pissed off i just left it, else i would have cracked it

You can cut the seal with a stanley knife - just the outer part = safe windscreen

You can try to push the seal with a big flathead screwdriver from the inside - from frame to the middle bit by bit and work your way around - if that makes sense.

Better add some tape to the screwdriver-tip.

I once got a windscreen out that way and kept the seal - but be very patient.

Do not push with the feet - this is a guaranteed windscreen-killer.

The 2p method is no good its too cheap. Take into account the current rate of inflation and you will find 50p will work!

All sorted ^_^

I've just got back from sorting it out, it took me 5 minutes to cut the seal and get the screen out. I did originally want to keep the seal but as its the safest method thats the way i took it out, safe and sound.

Thanks for your help guys :)

Cheers.

Well it takes less than 5 minutes to push them out with your feet, and the window and seal stay perfectly in tact!!

Yeah but the seal was fairly old anyway. I had to have the screen out due to a few bits of rust by the edge of the seals. That area will be painted when i do the engine bay all in one go.

I could have saved the seal but the amount of time trying to get it out without damaging it, for me it was the easiest way. Better buying a seal than a new windscreen.

Agreed, when I tried to get the windscreen out of my 205, I broke the screen trying to get it out in one piece, saved the seal, and then the bloody thing leaked when I put it back with a different screen!

If you can't figure out where the 2p's go then... well I'm not sure what to say. The screen only comes out 1 way so it's faily obvious when you look at it.

Either way, cutting it works.

I did try fitting the 2p on the outside edges and inside edge and both were not really doing anything, cutting was the best solution for me and found some parts of the seal had cracked. As said, it is best to replace the seal rather than the screen.

Sorry but you are wrong. I have removed probably 50 windscreens undamaged from all manner of different windscreens from Minis to Trucks by careful pushing with feet.

We took the windscreen out of my 205 last week by pushing from inside with my feet, once it starts to come out its easy. Does help to have someone else there to lift the seal up in the corner as you push to get it started.

O.K. no problem - maybe I have clumsy feet.

I don't want to disappoint you but the seals are NLA from Peugeot dealers.

I bought one from a Peugeot parts specialist in Midlands IIRC and was told it was the last one

I had no choice but to buy a non sunroof one although the car had a sunroof.

Well thats alright then as mine is a non sunroof.

But surely windscreen seals have to have a replacement much like other consumables, seems odd they are NLA ?

Well if i did use 50p's, i would have had the money to buy a windscreen in the first place.

Strange, I was told by a Peugeot dealer in UK that the windscreen seals are NLA (whether sunroof or non-sunroof).

I just called a german dealer who said that 8120 64 (non sunroof weather strip) can be ordered and costs €63.19 (which is what I paid actually for mine from a pug parts specialist).

I wonder why Peugeot in UK can't get hold of it then?

More likely that they've either manufactured another batch, or probably more likely, that your dealer was just being slack and couldn't be bothered....

IIRC this was Peugeot Wokingham which judging from past experience I thought they were helpful.

It could have been a diferent person behind the desk though.
