Xsara Vts Not Starting

Recommended Posts

right gentlemen

as this is the best forum ever to grace the internet i thought i should yet again ask a few quetions just to keep you sharp :D

and i best do it before sarty comes back on and tells me to "do a search" :P

been and picked a xsara vts up today, not the cleanest body wise but with 51k and a nearly FSH i couldnt turn it away for the price i paid B)

anyway, the owner says it was running fine, they then went on holiday for a couple of weeks.

on returning the battery was flat, booster pack was applied and it wouldnt start

turns over nicely, but get nothing, not even a cough

the pump is priming, the cut off switch is ok

so my thinking is its one of these, i havent checked spark yet but my initial thoughts are one of these

imobiliser has a problem

ecu fault (damp?)

CPS

any other posibilities?

thanks

pete

Double relay issue is fairly common, could still prime but have fault not allowing power to injectors and/or coils, check for spark.

You should be able to check the CPS for the correct resistance from the ecu plug, pins 30& 49 afaik or directly at the CPS plug to ecu loom, resistance between 300 & 400ohm.

most XU's and later XUD's use the same crank sensor.

testing for spark really is quite a fail-safe method of checking everything works :)

just an update, turns out there is no fuel or spark

when the ignition is turned on there is initially 12v at the coil pack, but once the fuel pump has primed its gone (as expected) when cranking it gets less than 0.1v

should the double relay click while cranking?

Pretty sure the problem's in the immo. Nothing else cuts fuel and spark at the same time.
