So, I just picked up my new GTi today, which happens to be a tintop. I've had one before, but never got to drive it.. All the other GTi's I've had have all had sunroofs.

Well, what a difference having no hole in the roof makes! Car is so nimble and chuckable. Just seems to handle so much better than any 205 I've had! I've had a couple which were lowered and it's better than them..

Anyway, rant over, I'm well pleased with my purchase! :( (thanks floodys!!)

Another tin top here, thought it would be cool to see how many of us there are if it hasn't already been done that is.

How do I start a poll?

I agree, would be cool to know who has a tintop and who has a sunroof. I think it'll make a good poll.

I don't know how to do them, might have to start a new thread or see if you can find out how.

now turned into a poll.

I've added a few lines of each and allowed multiple votes since there are many with more than 1. Not sure how it will work though.

i guess we'll need to total the duplicate columns.

No idea as to any difference in handling as have never driven 2 cars of an acceptably close specification in other areas back to back to assess.

All my road 205's have had the factory fitted sunroof, none of then have ever leaked and I love them.

I've driven the odd non-sunny back to back with my 205 (pre-cage & sunroof blank), and I agree.

There's 101 things that'll make a difference long before the roof skin will. Remember that the factory (vacuum) sunroof has additional bracing in the roof, and is if anything stronger than a non-sunroof skin.

Given that it's rare that I drive two 205's that behave the same even when they're identical on paper, I think that it's much more likely that your new car just happens to have suspension in better condition or something along those lines. Remember that these cars are 20+ years old now for the most part, and hence suspension, bushes etc are all tired if original, many of the shells have lived a hard life and are likely neither as stiff not straight as they once were, and that's before you even get to crashed or badly modified cars.

I've owned non-sunroof, factory sunroof, and aftermarket/dealer sunroof models. My preference for non-sunroof is nothing to do with handling, just that I rarely use the sunroof so I'd rather it wasn't there so it won't leak, weighs a touch less, and I think looks better (for what little that's worth)

I have owned two 205s, both of them with the factory sunroof so I can't comment on tintops, but it does follow that all that mass up high will upset the handling.

I've never had any problems with either of my sunroofs, no leaks etc. but I don't use it that much. I would agree that on a sunny day a blast through the lanes with the roof down is nice.

The 205's I've owned have all had a factory vacuum sunroofs, apart from one which had a winding sunroof. (what a crap sunroof that was!)

I do aggree it's probably not entirely down to my new car not having a hole in the roof, but to good/better suspension.

But basically, I'm really chuffed with my new purchase! :(

I would simply go for the non sunroof for looks. The full glass sunroof may make a difference to COG but i've never driven two cars back to back with any thought to this..

None of the above, 2 CTi's so where does that come in, :(

But as Anthony's said the sunroof roof's are braced more abit making some more weight up top but unless your at ten tenths I doubt many would notice a differance,

Little bit confused why there are 3 options of each, also I clicked view results stupidly and "null voted" myself maybe someone could sort this into just the 3 options or am I missing something and there is a need to have 3 of each option?

*EDIT > I now see why there are multiple choices for each option after reading thread again, can a moderator please cancel my NULL VOTE and select tin top. Thanks. Dm

No difference what so ever iMO, having had many of both it's just luck of the draw.

Might sound odd but I've had many with and without and it's always been the phase 1.5's that have felt wrong with no confidence in corners, I know there is no difference so must just be luck.

As Anthony said, my intial impression when reading the first post sounds like the first few 205's you drove were a little shagged! 3 of the 4 205's I'v had were sunny's, the non-sunroof being a van :(

I enjoy having a sunroof, I'm not just syaing that because I have one just I like having it open, I'v had it open all this week in the diesel :)

Definitely the sorrento I had was shagged.. Rear beam was so stiff on that one. The laser green one I had had billies on it, though they were the black ones.. Haha. The rest seemed okay though, but maybe I just can't remember. Hence why this one feels so positive. Who knows! :)

I've effectively had the same setup on about 5 different cars, but each handles slightly different still.

Super Josh

I've had both Sunny and Non-Sunny cars. No difference in handling whatsoever :(

I prefer the sunroof model for the extra light it throws into the cabin and the fact you can open it on those crisp winters days with the heater on full blast :)

Maybe the non-sunny looks a little more pleasing to the eye, but I like the quirkiness of the sunroof and no other car has anything quite like it :)

What a s*it poll!

First it was "what colour is your GTI?", now it's sunroofs. What next? A poll about wat alloys you've got. Or whether you prefer black Plasticare or grey Plasticare? Or if you prefer Sabine Schmidt to VBH?

I refuse to vote as a matter of principal :(

Nope.

Was it a good reply though? Did you like it? Did anyone else like it?

Why don't we put it to the vote? Mods, crack open the POLL-HAMMER :)

Why don't we get out the 10-page-whinge-hammer instead, that one always seems to get a few laughs, then disappears without a trace.

This thread is like measuring your undercarriage with a micrometer every night, keeping a note of the length and current ambient temperature. And drawing the following conclusion

Length = T ± ( (L - M) / W) - G

T = Ambient temperature

W = Length of time since last bout of furious onansism

L = number of women in video

M = number of Men in video

G = number of times thought about jade goodie that day

which is why everyone seems to be pointing out that it makes no discernible difference.

as part of the older reply I was going to link to a page on wikipedia.. but seeing as there are some rather adult topics mentioned.. i was at risk of being hit by the warn-hammer...

anyway further down the page i found some WIKIGOLD... so i'll just quote..

World masturbation records, the last one had me in stitches.

2009 Denmark

Masturbation time - men: 7 h 45 min

Masturbation time - women: 5 h 4 min

Number of orgasms - men: 8 - Danish record.

Number of orgasms - women: 222 - World record

Ejaculation distance - men: 2.5 m

Ejaculation distance - women: 3.15 m - World record

Target ejaculation - men: 6 cm from bull's eye

Target ejaculation - women: All over bull's eye

poor old bull.

that is all.
