Flashing Driver Convicted

Recommended Posts

C_W

Then he must have been very popular in that area :P

Thinking about it, I can understand if he was convicted for obstruction if he

- Stood infront of or blocked the camera

- Distracted the police operator by asking inane questions etc

Flashing another driver away from the actual scene of the camera to me is just the same as speaking to someone in the local shop to say there's a camera round the corner, so in effect it's a form of censorship lol

And as I mentioned earlier, how exactly does it even serve as a warning?

Is it just me? Am I just really thick? But when I see a driver flashing me I don't automatically think "Ooo, speed camera!". I'd usually glance down at my instruments expecting to find I've got my lights off, or got them on full beam etc. Another example is a few weeks ago when I was leaving Edinburgh at night and a coach flashed at me. I just thought WTF, and carried on as normal. Half a mile down the road there was a broken down lorry making the road 1 lane only, so the coach had been warning me of the potential hazard. Commendable of him, but I didn't have a f***ing clue what he was flashing for at the time! B)

At least it made you think, which is the whole point. I get it quite a bit and most of the time there was nothing to watch out for so they must be flashed by mistake or something.

Agree 100%. The point of flashing is to make you aware of a hazard, not to communicate exactly what the hazard is. It could be something with your car or something up ahead, either way it will make you more aware of both until you spot the problem or are satisfied nothing is wrong.

If someone you don't know flashes you in an area where you know mobile speed cameras operate then I would have thought checking your speed would be the first thing you would do, I know I would.

When I was on placement there were some very nice s-bends on the way to work, with a sign that used to say "max speed 40", except someone had removed the 40, so I was always happy to follow these instructions.

Taken from the Government Guidelines For Placement of Speed Cameras:-

Signs

"Camera warning and speed limit reminder signs must be placed in advance of fixed, mobile or time/distance speed enforcement taking place. For fixed sites, signs must be placed within 1 Km of the housing."

So whats the difference in their being a warning sign at the side of the road as required by law, or warning motorists by flashing your lights? Quite a lot it would seem.

There is an overzealous pacification of the speed limits around maidenhead, most national speed limit zones are now 50 or 40, 40's are now 30.

Cars are safer and the speed limits are getting lower.

This gives me the rage.

s*it i need a double rainbow right about now

None of us do, as car enthusiasts we obey all the rules of the road all of the time and have nothing but contempt for other non-205 driving road users as they are all terrible drivers and could learn a thing or two from us. We also all have access to a private airfield where we can "test" our cars in a safe enviroment with no danger to other people ;)
