The Project Continues

Recommended Posts

Hoppo1979

Hi All, the project is almost complete but a little advice from the experts is needed again. I have now fitted a brand new SAD direct from peugeot and a new ECU temp sensor. New Air filter to grille ducting from peugeot. I have had the CO and idle set by a specialist. New HT leads, spark plugs etc. Took the car out yesterday after it standing for 3 weeks. Car fires first time, ECU idle kicks in for 30 secs, SAD then kicks in and aids tickover on "choke" at 1400 RPM until car heats up. All seems well until about 5 minutes in when the car starts to misfire under load, ie when accelerating. If I accelerate gently and hold throttle it'll keep going but if I floor throttle 3 cylinders and going nowhere. After a run up a 5 mile bypass towards thre M1 and the engine fully heated up, absolutely no issue at all, it runs better than ever. Its through the stone cold to red hot cycle. I started the car from cold today on the drive to runit, all fine then after 5 it cut out. Fired it straight back up again and if you rev the car it misfires. Anyone got any thoughts as i'm baffled. For info i've chucked £1500 at the car and its a comletely standard 88 1.9. No expense has been spared and it stops traffic its so mint, this little problem has now reared its head though. I have run a bottle of injector cleaner through it as well. Thanks in advance.

Sorry but what do you mean by low tension side? As i've gone along i've been cleaning the 22 year old black gunk out of the connections. Someone told me an earth under the AFM causes issues so i've located that and cleaned it. I work for Porsche Nottingham and one of the technicians who's been helping me commented that a lot of the wiring has gone quite hard and brittle. I don't really facy a full loom and re-wire though!!
