fatony1 17 Posted September 11, 2010 Im currently running 309 lower arms with the original 205 shafts on my 205 GTI-6 (original 1.9 BE3 box). One of the shafts needs replacing (the N/S one if it helps) and i can get a very good price on 309 shafts. My question is, will there be a problem with running a N/S 309 shaft and an O/S 205 shaft? I just dont have the funds to replace both at the moment thats all! Thanks
engine killer 5 Posted September 11, 2010 sorry for the side kick. i am planning to get a pair of 309 arms, so is it really trouble/hassle free to run a combination of 309 arms with 205 drive shafts? thanks.
GLPoomobile 958 Posted September 11, 2010 Fatony - where is you can get the 309 shafts at a good price? I need a new DS shaft.
Anthony 1,000 Posted September 11, 2010 And to answer the question, I can't see problem running a 309 shaft one side and a 205 shaft the other with 309 wishbones given that it has been OK with 205 ones. I'm sure that plenty of people have one just that in the past, deliberately or unknowingly. Just make sure you compare the two shafts before you return it for exchange, as there's seemingly alot being mis-sold at the moment. 309 driveshaft should be just a few millimeters (10 maybe as a guess?) longer when fully compressed compared to the 205 one, and have the same splines etc.
