Anyone Know What Tooth Is Under The Cas

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

after putting my new box on i am having serious trouble with the car not revving up cleanly.

it was spot on before i changed the box, and now is running like poop.

i dont really know what i have changed? not electrically anyway.

i rewired the tps and lambda but i have rechecked the tps and that is fine, not sure on the lambda (would that make a difference?) other than that its got to be the position of the cas.

when i use a timing light the idle is fine but when i give it a bit of throttle the juct bounces about 1-2k and coughs and splutters and the spark is allover the shop.

i fix one thing and just find another problem grrr

I have tdc fine but it's a little hard to count the teeth with it all fitted together.

I was just wondering if anyone knew it off the top of their head before I start stripping it all down again

you need to set your trigger angle to 114 degrees. tooth 19/20 depending if you count the missing

if this doesn't work you may find that your ignition map if off by a few degrees.

It sounds like the vr sensor is not working properly, have you changed it??

Thanks

Do you have a proper crank speed signal in the tuning software?

Once you do, use a timing light to check the ignition advance...

Yeah i have a good stable rpm in megatune and with a light it is sittng about 7 dbtdc on idle but under throttle the spark is really irratic jumping from btdc to atdc and intermittant

post a picture of your ignition map, I'm running 114 degrees and it works perfectly. Didn't you have the sensor position further forward in the other box?

he has got a good point measure the depth of hole for the sensor to the top of a tooth, then compare that with the measurment taken from the sensor its self.

just been going over this again, you say the trigger angle should be 114? do you mean the crank angle is 114 and the trigger angle is 60 as per the wheel decoder?

or set a tooth 9/20 which would give returns of 10/18-40/48 and 9/17-39/47? you confused me for a minute there ;)

Trigger angle of 60 as you have mentioned

Trig pos A 9

Trig Return pos A 17

Trig pos B 39

Trig Return pos B 47

but do try EDIT: I've just looked on the megasquirt website the below values are correct :o

Trig pos A 10

Trig Return pos A 18

Trig pos B 40

Trig Return pos B 48

I can remember if you count the second missing tooth ;)

Sorry the names for different values changed between the two different versions sorry for the confusion.

:D

ah no worries, i have actually learnt a little about megasquirt ;)

i'll go over everything again i'm sure something will turn up.

gotta be something to do with the sensor; either wrong trigger angle or incorrect gap.

start from scratch again. bloody megasquirt.

well in answer to my first question; tooth 20 is under the cas when no 1 is tdc

my problem turned out to be that the cas was too close to the wheel and must have been disrupting the signal, i have spaced it out buy another 1mm and it seems fine. just need a few runs now to get it set up again.
