Nuts, I Mean Bolts, I Mean Both....

Recommended Posts

Right it's my nuts and bolts topic. I am in the middle of tidying up the engine bay in my Goodwood. It is just a tidy up ie I'm not going mad to make it look like new, as I really do not have the time however I am removing rust and treating it as necessary. Whilst doing this I was wondering if there is anything I can soak rusty nuts and bolts in just to clean them up a bit, or even paint them. I know new ones would cost very little but I'm not near a main dealer and there are a few different ones so thought this maybe a possibility.

Secondly there are some cable tie things located round the bodywork to hold the convoluted tubing does anyone have part numbers for these.

Nuts and bolts can be bought from so many different places, doesn't have to be a dealer...

I'd just buy new ones and coat them in grease as you fit them.

So where do people buy there brand new nuts and bolts? I'm sure I over payed last time, and then they ended up being stolen out of my car when it was stolen and dumped.

Leave the nuts and bolts soaking in it for a couple of days and it will remove all traces of rust :)

Replace them all with stainless nuts & bolts.

Only if the bolts aren't under strain. SS bolts are only grade 4-6. Whereas your standard bolt would be grade 8.8

look at the stainless stuff quite cheap. Just do not use stainless on suspension or brakes.

Most sizes are

M5 = 8mm spanner

M6 = 10mm spanner

M8 = 13mm spanner

M10 = 17 or 16mm spanner

M12 = 19mm spanner.

Note the strut tops are M7

Also try Ebay or a local Iron mongers
