Car Tax Price - Ffs.....!

Recommended Posts

weejp

I can't effing believe it, as if it wasn't already a massive punt in the knackers at £190, I go to renew my tax disc online and it's went up another £15 to £205, what a effing joke. I must have checked it 4-5 days ago and it was £190, so when did the price go up? ;)

I'm dumbfounded, I'm sure when I bought the car, less than 2 years ago, it was about £175 - sickening, I mean the fecking car has done less than 4000 miles in my ownership, so I personally won't have polluted the earth very much - seems bloody unfair to me.

At this moment in time if someone offered me a fair price, I'd take it, this government is raping the motorist, and no doubt any subsequent government will do the exact same, I love cars but it's getting to the stage where I can't justify the 205 anymore due to the soaring price of fuel, insurance, tax.... well in fact bloody everything....!!!!!!!!!

I am fuming, don't know if you noticed.......

Literally just bought mine this second online, mine was £68.75 for 6 months, but I was expecting it to be more (as the letter stated THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE) you'd think they'd guarantee the price it said on your renewal.

What car do you drive muddatrucker - cos there can't be a 205 GTi with that price of tax surely? My quote for 6 months on a 1990 1.6 GTI is a ballaching £112.75

Are we all the same on the road tax then - or are the later cars with CAT's a bit cheaper? I think we're all the same ain't we?

To be honest, car tax isn't *that* bad in this country compared to other places - check out the likes of Ireland if you want a shock!

(to save you looking, it's currently €445 p.a for a 1.6 GTi, and €614 p.a for a 1.9 GTi... and the exchange rate is currently around £1 = €1.15 ;))

you could buy a 107, £20 a year tax, cheap insurance, very high mpg.

but you choose to drive a 205 ;)

as Anthony commented, check out Ireland, I saw the disc on a 407 2.7 HDi last year, IIRC it was 1800 euros

I did think about bringing up the irony of the price, but I'm so sick, I left it.

I've had to put the 205 into use a lot more recently as we've sold our daily car, (new purchase will be ready soon hopefully!) and it's been a real eye opener, £45 in fuel for 10 days use, covering something like 220-230 miles and now i discover this, I like the car an all but really, 27-30 mpg is a killer...

Think I'll vote GREEN

Thats the good thing about having a Rallye, just renewed mine and it cost me £120 for a year. Its running carbs too so if anything I bet its more polluting than your GTIs!

.... but offset with the biggest cost of owning a newish car - depreciation (which a 205 doesn't suffer - in fact, they're appreciating in value!)

If you're really that bothered about tax and fuel economy, buy a smallish engine motorbike - cheap as chips for both.

amusingly for a pug, 107's hold their value very well ;) they're half jap too and dont go particularly wrong

but then we all still choose to have a 205

I have to put Super Unleaded in my 205 v6 and i fill up every third day at about £60

I would love £45 to last me 10 days, you are lucky mate ;)

I wish I could pay myself more to run a daily like that!

I had a feeling most of the replies would be along the lines of 'don't be so tight, get on with it' and fair enough, it was more the increase in road tax within a few days that really got me going TBH.

At the mo, we have a Citroen C1 (same as 107, Aygo) temporarily and whilst it's safer and frugal, it's never going to be a realistic choice for me/us.

I guess I'm envious of the tax exempt crew (pre 1975) and you 205 GTi owners that claim 35-40 mpg - I wish there could be some sort of reduction on car tax related to the tiny mileage but that wouldn't benefit the governments' and I realise this could be taken advantage of.......

Anyway......

I just escaped the tax rise, its starting to get on my tits now. Trouble for me is, i've done the cheap motoring and its miserable, my old 307 was only £35 for 12 months tax. But soul destroying motoring. I'm going to stick with the 205.

High tax isn't too bad. It the high insurance that gets me. I get the £185 tax (or whatever) and I choose that because I drive a car with an engine bigger that 1500cc. But for insurance I'm paying £1k after iyr no claim, and I'm 20! If I bought a Fiat Panda 750 it would still be £900

They should spend all that money they're raking in on teaching dozy cnuts how to concentrate. Often enough it's not bad driving it's a serious lack of concentration that causes crashes

Couldn't agree more, I sold my 1st Impreza Sti to buy a then new (56 plate) Fiesta ST thinking it would in some way have the fun factor of an Mk1/2 XR2 & give cheaper motoring. Wrong! Sold after 4 months. Since selling that I have had 2 V8's, another M3, another Sti & an Escort Cosworth.

If the car doesn't have a 'soul' it doesn't get a 2nd look anymore, it costs what it costs to own/run. I would rather pay £400 to drive on our p*ss poor roads than drive some basicfunctiontransportationdevice Mk4 costing £25 a year to tax that would bore me senseless. I guess to everyone on here a car is more than a basic form of transport, its a hobby/release from the daily grind too.

My 205 has gone up from £190 to £205, but my 107 has dropped from £35 to £20 so cant complain there it balance's itself out. Yet ill do probilly 500 miles a year in the 205 and 20,000 miles a year in the 107 which makes me believe the car tax system is all wrong.

Modern small engined cars aren't such a bad drive powerwise, they just drive themselves and are boring.

Been saying that for yers too, even signed a couple of petitions about it but wasteing my breath.

Just paid the TAX on the MX5 £245 :)

What with high insurance and high TAX i can almost understand why some people do without after all in the unlikley event of getting caught you lose the car and get a fine, which you then pay out of your dole. Before i get berated i said understand NOT APPROVE
