davepug205 7 Posted April 18, 2010 Hey peeps, Everyone been enjoying the sun? Ive seen a 309 GTI local to me which hasnt moved for a while, so I left my number on the windscreen. I spoke to him today and hes looking to sell! Its in black and reasonably tidy, it has abit of rust on the back quarters. The MOT ran out last month and I think its still taxed. He said the rear beam was rebuilt about 2 years ago by spooks (which I know hasnt got the best rep ) but shouldnt be siezed. and he has lots of spares to go with it. Hes only looking for £400 which I thought was a reasonable price? But ive heard these 309s rot?? If so how bad and where do I look?? Cheers Dave
Baz 421 Posted April 18, 2010 It is has visible rust on the exterior, you can bet on it having a sh!tload more in the unseen places. Check the sills, front panel, boot floor and inner arches in the boot, and especially between the tank and inner sills.

I wouldn't bet on it, i know what a Spooner 'rebuild' consists of, and it's not worth the paper it's written on.

CosKev 16 Posted April 18, 2010 As above, they rot pretty bad Rear bumper mounts are usaully non existent,or bodged, Pretty much guaranteed it will need attention to rear inner sills by tank, Rear panel just inside boot goes across the seam, Seam where quarter panel joins sill on doorstep is another place to check, Strut tops, Front panel, Mudflap frame(inner arch)on front where mudflap bolts to, Rear inner arches behind fuel filler pipe. Ryan 99 Posted April 18, 2010 If spoox has been anywhere near the beam then budget for a replacement.
