just wondering if anybody has done this or knows if its posible?

Im planning on running a 1.9 gti head on a 2.0 xsi 8v bottom end as my bottom end is fubared. Id be running it on standard 1.9 management aswell.

Given how much you need to skim off a 2.0 (XU10J2) head when using it on a 1.9 (XU9JA) bottom end to make the compression right, I'd hazard a guess that the compression ratio would be too high when running a 1.9 8v on a 2.0 8v bottom end.

is this not just because the xu10j2 are low compression in general? i.e. the heads have big bowls, but also the pistons may be dished to give a total lower compression as standard than the xu9s?

just had a quick look, xsi is 9.5:1, gti is 9.6:1, so xsi is slightly lower as standard but not much... surpose if the compression was higher it wouldnt be too bad as long as it wasnt above 11.5:1 on standard management.
