Oil Temp Sender In Xu10 Tin Sump

I got a temp sender a few months back that I believed was the correct one for the sump,The sender I got actually screws into my original MI16 sump perfectly but when I went to install it into my XU10 tin sump the sender thread is too large.Have I been sold the wrong sender ?

 

I nwas told it was for a late spec 205 gti ?
