Finding The Ecu To Use

I have a 93 309 Gti, when we changed the cambelt it appears to have an earlier engine in it aswe had to use the earlier type tensioner and water pump.

 

The car does not have a cat either.

 

When I got the car it had a superchipped 1.6 ecu in it which I changed for a 1.9 superchipped version as that was available at the time.

 

I want to put a standard ecu back in but am worried there might be different versions of ECU's for earlier/later and cat -non cat cars.

 

I can't use service box as it's not the original lump in there.

 

How can I find out what ECU I should be using?

If its a 1.9 you'd need a 1.9 Jetronic ECU, I think only the Auto engines had the lower power Motronic equipped engine in them, though it obviously depends a lot on which wiring loom and set of components it has on there, sounds like Jetronic if it ran on a 1.6 ecu though.

never knew there was a 309 gentry?

 

given as mentioned that it ran fine on a 1.6 ecu I'd go with a 1.9 ecu from a normal 128 bhp engine, 0 280 000 359

a couple of the lads on the 309 forum have checked theirs and their ecu codes end in 349?

Thanks for that list. Turns out the 1.9 superchips ecu I purchased is actually a phase 1 1.6 ecu! Best I get a genuine one on there & set it all up again! It might explain why it doesn't feel right!

probably a good idea to check the AFM part number and the injector colour, and the Dizzy part numbers, give it the best fighting chance!

The afm I know is ok as I checked the number previousy. Injetctors are yellow iirc.

I'll have to find the correct dizzy code and check that. The car was a bit of a missmatch when I got it, it even had a be 1 box that had a be3 clutch arm and no reverse cable set up so you could select reverse by mistake when pulling away!
