205/lancer Evo 4wd Hybrid

Hi folks,

After a long time away I've been thinking about returning to 205 ownership and also a bit of a project.

I'm thinking a gti with early evo running gear. I'd like to keep all of the pug suspension layout with custom drive shafts and a modified rear beam with e.g 106 front hubs to take drive shafts (like the old dangel 4x4 conversions).

The car would remain totally standard looking i.e non wide arch.

This is clearly not a small undertaking and as it stands is nothing but a pipe dream, but hey.

Now what do we think? Potentially possible?

Any comments welcome :-)

Thanks

Ben

I've seen a ford fiesta mk3 fitted with an evo engine and running gear!

If you was going to do it to a 205 I'd use a later evo running gear and mainly a later engine E6 onwards as these are easier and cheaper to get power from.

I hope you can weld! as a 205 engine bay and transsmision tunnel are a bit on the small side for what you what.

Other than that one word will sum this project up if you undertake it...MISSION!

However nothing is impossible, good luck !

From what ive been told the engine is quite easy to fabricate mounts for. You just need a tunnel and rear end shocker mounts which takes abit of thinking about.

From other members projects I've seen there is a wrx conversion going on, that would also be a possibility.

I've found a few links to the Dangel 4wd conversion.

I really like the way the car looks totally standard

Seen a project (turbosport i think) where someone cut the top off a scoobie chassis and stuck a MK2 body on it.

Could use the Evo chassis, cut top off, shorten it, and stick a 205 bod on top?

:)

Hey Ben interseting that your thinking this way because I was also wondering about how easy it would be to fit an evo engine, but just leave it front wheel drive, and yes I know traction might be a problem!

I found it :-)

Big job indeed!

Shortening and narrowing a wrx chassis would be more work still

Thats my mk1 escort project, was a hell of alot of work involved in it. I havent got the time at the moment what with kids etc so have sold it just waiting for the guy to tell me when he wants it delivering. The new owner has just finished an RS200 replica with wrx running gear.

If you do a search on turbosport there is a Metro running EVO running gear with a 6r4 kit, looks the biz too.
