Xu9 Crank - Oil Pump Gear

Recommended Posts

skinner2k3

I have a crank from an engine that did not use a key on the oil pump gear, the type which relies on friction to lock the gear.

I dont really like the sound of that, can that crank be used with later keyed gears. I am guessing not as there are only two grooves.

Cheers

Ben

Hi Ben.

if the crank has 2 keyways in it, then you can..

I didnt like the idea of the 'friction fit' oil drive on my Mi16.. so i bought another woodruf key

and modded the oil pump drive to fit it.

Cheers mate.

It has two slots and I have another oil pump gear which is keyed so good to go.

Are there different ratios of oil pump gearing as I am sure the friction gear is larger than the keyed version?

XU10 ones are larger than XU9 (26 vs 22 tooth) and use a different oil pump chain.
