Welding "eye" Fittings To Omp Cage

Recommended Posts

Spiky

is it ok or not ok to weld Eye fittings to the omp cage, to mount the harness from, instead of the old seat belt mounts on the rear floor?

Would it not be better to get the extra long eye bolts and drill staright through and bolt from behind as it were?

yeah either is fine by me , but justing wondering it is a OK idea or not?

as technically you are altering the cage by drilling through, hence welding would put strength back in

Theres a few reason I wouldn't personally do it, one id go for is think of the material your welding too, 1.6mm thick steel or so. You wouldn't bolt your seat to it, or your cage infact so why bolt (or weld) eyelets to it and expect it to hold.

MSA stipulate 3mm thick spreader plates and minimum spread plate areas for a reason.

If you still want to use eyelets id still be using the floor pan at the correct angle and with the correct spreader plates rather than potentially making your cage illegal eventing wise.

dude, i think you need to RE-READ the original post as you are talking about something different to what i am

and not using the a harness still has me chuckling..lol

and using the floor at the correct angle? i'm not 2" tall :P

It will be fine as long as the welding is done to a good standard!
