1.9 Head On A 1.6?

Recommended Posts

Guest ASH83W

Will a cylinder head from a 205 1.9 fit straight on a 1.6 with no mods?

Cheers!

Except for the very early 105hp 1.6 the 1.6 and 1.9 heads are exactly the same.

And if you're swapping the whole head, then don't forget the cam's different between 1.9 & 1.6.

hi!

it depends on what 1.9 head you have!

fitting is no problem- it will fit. but the 1.6 engine with 105hp has smaller valves than the 1.9 with 120/130hp.

(in germany there is no 115hp 1.6, so I dont know, if you have any 105hp?)

the heads from 1.6 115hp and 1.9 120/130hp are the same. (bigger valves)

the heads from 1.6 105hp and 1.9 102hp are the same. (smaller valves)

(except of the cams they use)

cheers,

matthias

Barely a difference tbh, and either will work in either engine fine.

There is virtually no difference, I measured both with a DTI.

That's interesting.

As the part number's are different, then what's the real difference and is there any potential (albeit minimal) benefit from doing the swap?

on paper there's quite a bit, I posted up the spec some time ago, and know of people who have tried a 1.9 head complete on a 1.6 and it was sluggish as anything till the original cam was fitted.

A friend has a 1.6 & after her head gasket went I with a 1.6 engine with a rebuilt 1.9 head & cam fitted.

After driving it for a while I fitted a vernier to make sure the timing was 100% because I didn't know how much had been skimmed off it & tbh the difference isn't that much overall but it did feel liked to rev better with the proper 1.6 cam although it was closer to what I remembered it after the timing was set right.

I ran a 1.9 cam in my old 1.6 briefly, as above, didnt like it, felt very flat.
