davidc 0 Posted November 18, 2009 We have a Safety Devices rear half cage in our 205. Its the one with double diagonals, belt bars & mounts to rear beam mounts (Im not sure what model it is ?). Am I correct in thinking that the front cage for this part should fit behind the dash ? Also,is it possible to fit the other type of front cage that comes down in front of the dash (just so we dont have to cut it) ? And....if anyone has a front half, both legs, cross bar & door bars then please let me know. Any help greatly appreciated ! Cheers, David
Baz 421 Posted November 18, 2009 Did you try a search first? This is all already covered. They're not interchangable and yes the C44 cage should front legs that come down through the dash.

I did do a search but it threw up a lot of stuff that had nothing to do with cages. Can you post a link to where it has been discussed already ? Baz 421 Posted November 18, 2009 Nope, because i cba tbh. But i know personally they're not interchangable as i've had both cages at the same time and wondered the same.

davidc 0 Posted November 19, 2009 Thanks for the info..... Whats the chances of finding someone with a front half to match our back half ??? slim ??? Cheers, David
Baz 421 Posted November 19, 2009 Pretty much yes, i hunted or a year or so before giving up. You can get new from a dealer like AB Motorsport though, can't remember what the price was tbh.
davidc 0 Posted November 19, 2009 Thanks for the info.... I'll need to get a price for the rear half & see what delivery is like. Cheers, David
timb1046 1 Posted November 19, 2009 just cut the dash, you can make it look very neat if you spend a bit of time on it. at the end of the day its for your saftey and the C44 is one of the safest out there without going spaceframe or custom. another dash is dirt cheap if you did want to store your dash until another day when you dont have a cage in. philfingers 5 Posted November 19, 2009 David It's a C44 in mine and yes behind the dash. C44 cages command good money as they're used in the challenge. You might get lucky and find a front half but as Baz says they're pretty rare Phil

davidc 0 Posted November 26, 2009 Cheers Phil..... I think I've more chance of winning the lottery than finding a front half !! GOt a quote for the front half cage consisting of: 2x front legs 1x roof cross bar 2x door bars 395 pounds delivered !!!! I think we need to rethink this one & maybe sell on the C44 rear half !! philfingers 5 Posted November 26, 2009 you'll buy a whole C44 s/h for that price!
davidc 0 Posted November 28, 2009 you'll buy a whole C44 s/h for that price! Aye, its bit expensive eh !! Theres a SD C12 cage for sale beside Aberdeen for 200 pounds which would have been ideal.....but Im stuck in Algeria just now !! Anyway...we'll keep looking, something will turn up sooner or later. welshpug 1,629 Posted November 28, 2009 could find a rollcage fabricator and get them to make up the front section for you? I know Rippthrough has done similar with a CC cage for a 306 that had strange shapes in the front legs so bent up some new ones to fit, no idea of how much that'd cost, but would imagine it could be a bit less than £400! Well......I've actually got a pair of Safety Devices Sunbeam front legs that may do the job, they are similar in shape but need a wee bit of a bend where they bolt to the rear half. All I would need to do then would be to get some door bars made up & also the roof bar/cross brace piece but I also have a complete Safety Devices Mk1 Escort roll cage that may be able to donate the cross bar. A wee bit of fabrication is in order I think !!! Cheers, David
welshpug 1,629 Posted November 28, 2009 I wouldn't modify a cage personally, and I don't think scrutineers would be that happy with it either.
philfingers 5 Posted November 28, 2009 modifying what you have is fine so long as you're not trying to bend out existing bends. So long as it complies with all the blue book regs then I don't see it as a problem. You may then need to get it examined if it's a 'homemade' cage. Saying that done right and if you still have the sticker on the back half who's going to know. David I know you'll do it right so that's not an issue as it could be with some. Rippthrough 98 Posted November 28, 2009 Aye: Went from: To this: £250, that was for two A pillars, and a new dash bar, in T45, plus fitting them.
davidc 0 Posted November 29, 2009 I wouldn't modify a cage personally, and I don't think scrutineers would be that happy with it either. If you look at where the front legs attach to the rear part of a C44 then you'll see the brkts angle up to the roof. All the front legs need is a bit of a bend, only a few degrees, to line up & it should be fine. The roof bar should be very close too. Anyway, when I get home I'll have a proper look of it & see how we get on. Cheers, David

Try Montgomery Motorsport in Ireland for a quote....Malcolm is quite good & usually keenly priced too. Cheers, David
