Recommended Posts

Sven_2k4

Hi all this is Mya an Ebay speacial that me and the other half bought to restore and keep us busy over the winter.

I'll add lots of pics as and when we crack on with her, so keep an eye out

She's a 1988 1.6 CTi, advertised as needing a little TLC....... lets wait and see!

'Known' faults currently are:

1. Windows wont open

2. Drivers Door full of water ( coincedence?)

3. Fuel guage has a mind of its own

4. Clutch is 'interesting'

5. small rip in the roof

6. most of the trim clips on the outside are missing or loose

7. Engine in need of an overhaul (job to do in works time me thinks ;o) )

8. broken rear bumper and fog light

9.cracked front fogs.

Wish me luck! :D

Right bit of an update......

after stripping down the doors the reason for the locking and windows not functioning may have something to do with the after market goodies added to them and that every joined wire is merely twisted together with a bit of tape! Grrrrrr!

Also the weird start from a flick switch seems to have something to do with an alarm/immobilser it once had that bits of have been hacked out. Put all the wiring back to original but now have developed an odd fault. When starting the engine the feed for the starter solenoid stays live and keeps the motor engaged when the engine has started.......think it may have something to do with the ignition switch so thats my next port of call.

More and pics to follow later ;o)

Good luck with the CTI,

Reminds me of when we bought ours as a winter project! took rather longer though,

Electrics have often been hacked, I found 4 alarms in different places, eventually I got a replacement dash and unhacked loom from Miles which helped,

Doors can often fill with water as the bottom door window rubbers shrink, just make sure the hole at the bottom of the door is clear to let the water run out, or drill more holes!

I kept some of the photo's of the work at

Photos

If link doesn't work, look up Pillowjo on Fotki photo site, might help in future to see how things are,

Time for todays end of play update......

I've completely removed all the aftermarket goodies, including the two sets of door actuators, the electric (at one time) windows, the inop alarm and immboliser.

I've also tried to restore all the wiring and fix all the bits that dont work i.e the oil pressure guage (broken terminal) and the broken ignition switch.

That one isn't meant to connect to anything, its used for setting the ignition timing with a special bit of equipment that Peugeot dealers used to have, these days its totally redundant.

Hey all

Thanks for the comments!

Bit of an update, since yesterday. Since rewiring the ignition back to original She's developed a strange habit of continuing to throw the starter into the flywheel even after the engine has started. Does anyone know the colour or location of the starter relay (if there is one) before i slash my hands to pieces taking the motor off to look at the solenoid......?

Just a quickie also, whats the deal with editing the linked photo's from photobucket? Surely a restoration thread is ment to have pictures?

Looks like they were a bit too big, some people don't have very fast internet connections and it makes the page extremely slow to load for them. Also it can mess the layout up if they are very big.

from the rules:

if the image is greater than 800x600 pixels, put up just a link, without IMG tags,

or resize it to a smaller filesize before uploading.

thread with info about resizing pics:

The size is irrelevant as they will be displayed shrunken, but the filesize is important.

As you're hosting images on photobucket, make use of their thumbnail code.

This makes for a very neat and quickly loading thread ;).

Thanks.

Bit of an update.......

Been having a bit of a hunt on the old bay for bits for the CTi. Managed to get a complete lock set for a rather generous £25, an oil pressure sender for £5, and some other odds and sods.....

Fingers crossed when i've sorted the valves out on the XR3i ( the other half snapped the cam belt) I'll get on with the CTi.....

Pictures to follow

Quick update.....

now have the lock up and the CTi is in it!

also in the mean time i've got a set of front fogs, a tonneau cover, a Tachymetric relay, and a complete lock set.

All i've got to do now is strip the car down repaint it reassemble it and then get her gone for Project GTi!!!!!

Hey all another update on the Cti, spent most of today trying to sort the 'Curious' wiring and plumbing of the air/fuel intake bits.

th_DSC00073.jpg

at the lockup

th_DSC00074.jpg

everything from the filter to the manifold off...... with 2 nuts and one bolt holding the whole lot on. Bodges galore!!!!

th_DSC00076.jpg

SAD valve missing the wiring ( no where to be found ) and missing the pipe work....... where should it go to? Andwhere does the wiring come from?

th_DSC00077.jpg

Inlet manifold off the car........ odd pipe with a mini sump plug jubilee cliped on blanking it off....... think this should be connected to the SAD?

Indeed that pipe on the bottom of inlet manifold is for the SAD.

well it was .......... lol ..........any ideas where i might try tracing the wiring for said valve?

Should be on the ECU loom that comes from under the inlet manifold and over the top engine mount, trace it along and find all the plugs coming off of it.

Cheers for that..... I'll take the sprial wrap off tomorrow see if i can trace it.

Also any idea's why the starter would still try and fire in after the key is released? traced the loom back to the fuse board, cant find it shorting out to any 12+feed?
