But do note that the actual colour of the wires may or may not be identical , as they're a bit different from one to another year model (this pictures above are taken from a Ph1 1.6 car ..) .. so you'll need to check the wire numbers as that is the only precise wire identification (for this , you'll need wiring diagram , so , download Haynes book here please : http://www.205gti.com/downloads.htm) the wire No. is stamped with black letter/number markings at the each end of the wire near the end i.e. the connector or similar ..

What exactly does the shielding wire (number 3) do on the plug for the ignition amplifier?

Mines been ripped out (rements of a connector inside) , do I need to connect it to something?

(i.e the coil shown on pic one)
