Are 1.6 gti alternaters the same as 1.9s?

Well, technically they're different - 1.6 alternators are rated at 50A and 1.9 rated at 70A - but in reality it makes little difference and both are the same fitment and can be interchanged just fine.

The alternator only produces as many amps as needed, X amps from a 50a alternator is the same load on the engine as X amps from a 70a alternator.

But less windings (hence lower ampage) to lighter = less interia?? or does something else control the output :s
