Anthony 1,000 Posted October 4, 2009 Well, technically they're different - 1.6 alternators are rated at 50A and 1.9 rated at 70A - but in reality it makes little difference and both are the same fitment and can be interchanged just fine.
James_R 3 Posted October 4, 2009 so a 1.6 alt has less interia??
Ryan 99 Posted October 4, 2009 The alternator only produces as many amps as needed, X amps from a 50a alternator is the same load on the engine as X amps from a 70a alternator.

James_R 3 Posted October 4, 2009 But less windings (hence lower ampage) to lighter = less interia?? or does something else control the output :s
large 33 Posted October 4, 2009 Its not an output but a draw. Like pushing a bit of string.
