Xsara Vts Rack - Changing Track Rods

Has anybody changed the track rods on a Xsara VTS rack?

 

I'm looking at changing the track rods from Xsara to 205 gti 1.9 one's to get the right track width

 

however I'm not sure how they are attached, I had a look on the parts CD and it doesn't go into enough detail to show the fixing methods of the track rods.

 

On one side I stripped the boot off as it needed replacing anyway and it would appear that they are threaded.....but they didn't want to come apart?

 

 

as for the other side - its completely hidden by a rubber cover which doesn't look replaceable?

See the teeth on the right side of the joint? Get some soft-jawed mole grips on there and it'll unscrew.

ah so the whole joint with the track rod has to be changed then....
