sussex_gti 0 Posted June 30, 2009 I've had a radiator from them before for my previous gti, which they said was alloy but when this arrived it was a copper part. Im looking to fit a 16v engine to my 2nd gti, and want to fit an alloy rad. I'm certain i've seen people say they are available from GSF ( I have to use them, as work are allowing me to buy lots of parts that i will need, and i repay them monthly from my wages, no intrest etc so much cheaper than Credit cards) I've searched but cant find a part number. If someone can help that would be great. Thanks in advance, Chris.
Miles 331 1 Cars Posted June 30, 2009 All depends on what stk they have bought, The last lot where a cheap rad but did the job
sussex_gti 0 Posted July 1, 2009 Miles, would you say a new copper rad is sufficiant for the job?
Ryan 99 Posted July 1, 2009 Copper is better at cooling that alloy.
sussex_gti 0 Posted July 1, 2009 Thats what ive always thought, just seen and heard alot of people switching to alloy rads and finding a good reduction in temperatures.
welshpug 1,627 Posted July 1, 2009 quite likely because they had knackered rads I think the original rads for the 205 were a copper core?
Tom Fenton 1,526 Posted July 1, 2009 I think that is more due to the fact of changing to an old rad to a new one rather than copper to alloy. Change an old copper rad to a new copper rad and I think you'd see a drop in temp as well.
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted July 1, 2009 I had some trouble when I got a new rad from GSF a couple of months ago. I specifically asked for a Nissens rad which thay got for me. It turned out to be faulty, and on return they offered others off the shelf. The copper rad was shockingly poor looking, with smallest number of fins I've ever seen on a rad and the other was alloy which resembled an air-con rad with the foil-like fins. I took the alloy, fitted it and it leaked like sieve Ended up taking it back, and telling them that I wanted a new Nissens rad and I did'nt care how long it took. ALEX 98 1 Cars Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Just called in to GSF in Huddersfield, £76 + VAT for a Radiator for a 1.6 Cti/Gti. I didn't ask if it was alloy or not, but didn't these used to be about £35? Edited July 1, 2009 by ALEX
Alan_M 66 1 Cars Posted July 1, 2009 Rads are listed at £54+VAT for GTi on the GSF website. That price is certainly for an ally rad too, think I paid that for mine (got the VAT discounted)
