mechanically they are the same, you can interchange them without problems.

but what ratios are inside depends on what car they were from...

 

only thing that happens sometimes is that the diff is different so longer driveshafts wont fit and you have to change the diff, but painless work.

Yes the diff on later cars will not accept 1.9 driveshafts

You'll be best either trying to fit one of your 205 driveshafts before you fit the gearbox or swap the diff for a 205 to be certain.

 

The one I sold Henry was from a 405 SRI (I'm not sure if it was an alloy or steel blocked one) & his driveshafts didn't fit into the diff properly when he got it fitted so the diff had to be swapped for his original 205 one.

 

The ratios are supposed to be the same across the two boxes, I hope so as I've got one here from an 306 S16 which is also the same box.

Better option is to modify the short driveshaft with the gearbox end that matches the gearbox. These later style diffs are much stronger than the original 205 diffs.
