Who's Owned Their 205 The Longest?

I've had my 1988 white 1.6 GTI since Nov 1992 iirc but its only been on the road twice in the last ten years.

 

Its got a lower display milage than my black track car but thats had an engine rebuild when the cc jumped by 325cc so its not strictly true.

 

I think Miles might be able to trump us all with his haze blue CTI though.

i can't compete in the length of time i've owned a 205 gti

 

but out of 40 odd cars i've owned since i passed my test, the 205 gti is the only car i kept for the longest time.

have owned a 309 gti for nearly 4 years now, and haven't driven anymore than 5 miles in it

Yeah i would say miles as well hes had that cti since the dawn of time!

Just thought to check the Drivers Cars on the main website to see if Miles is at the top of the table but it says he has only had the CTI since 1997.

I've had my 1.6 since new in 5th October 1989 iirc (sold it once and bought it back 2 years later) so almost 18 years for me.

still has original engine and box (3rd getting stubborn though:~( )

Good to see there are some long term enthusiasts on here. Glad I'm not alone in having had mine so long and suppose its not just been me that's found it difficult to part with their old money pit

I am a newbie to the forum, I have had my 88 205 GTI 1.9 since sept 88 (2nd owner) only got 55K miles on it, just put it back on road and love it's rawness and almost go cart qualities, it is as much fun as my 2010 Porsche GT3 non bad for a 23 year old car

I think you fall in to one of two categories with these cars

 

Person a] keeps hold of their 205 for a very long time

Person b] buys a 205, sells it, regrets, buys another, repeats over and over again

 

I've had 4 now. I need to become a person a).

i bought my Turbo Technics in 1992, its been off the road for about 5 years and will be coming back on the road this year

Similar here, I had my previous sorrento the longest of all my cars, 5 years in total (4, then sold, bought back for a year and sold again)

I agree, I should not have sold my sorrento the first time round.

Note to myself: if you find a car that you are happy with don't sell it!
