4 Branch Magnex

Recommended Posts

steve@cornwall

I fitted a 4 branch magnex to the CTI, into a s/s flexi joint and from there to a standard 3 piece system using the last foot or so of standard downpipe. It rattles like loose baffle plates . I originally used it with magnex centre box and standard back box, which I replaced as I thought the baffles were shot and hence the rattle. However, I haven't cured the rattle. It seems to come from the knuckle joint which has new (escort diesel) springs on it. Anyone else had / cured such a rattle? It's only at load with low revs BTW, not on idle . Such a PITA I,m thinking of going back to standard manifold

the only rattle i had from mine was when the blanking piece between the four pipes (in the collector) fell out - you'd know if it was that though, as it'd be blowing badly

if you trace it to the knuckle joint (they're lots of trouble), it's worth ditching it for a flexi, as they're quite a good manifold (imo). i had the pipe-to-headflange welds re-tigged when mine was done as well as some had cracked

ive had 2 now on different and they rattled like a b****h and sounded horrible, on my race pugs system i have one of these fitted but i cut the knuckle joint off and bought a flexi joint off ebay and had it professionally welded in place, u need somethin at the end of the 4 branch so stop the vibrations throu the rest of the system, have a look here CLICKY hasnt failed me yet

I have one of these after the knuckle as there was a very badly welded sleeve on the end of the pipe, so I replaced it with one of these - maybe time to look into getting the knuckle tig'ed together you think?

if u already got a flexi joint in place after the knuckle then yeh I'd say definitely weld it up even if you just put a couple of tacks to hold them together, I'd do the whole lot thou as you may be loosin

A bit of back pressure outta it, I little hard to do the whole lot thou while in place on the car

Good luck, let us know how it goes

I have the Magnex 4branch on my 205 but my system must be an exception to the rule as ive never had a bit of

trouble with it no blowing nothing, the joint has allways been greased and moves freely it has the original springs

aswell which i think helps. As has allready been said perhaps welding the full flexi will help, it isnt rattling against

the subframe isit? as i remember my brother having the same trouble but only on idle  ,he sorted it the

end if i remember correctly by using a certain gasket, i,ll have to check what -1 he used..

Luke..

Another one here. My one has a lovely rattle at 3,000 rpm. From what i could tell, it was coming from the backbox.

I didnt realise this was a common thing on Magnex.

It seems the backbox is welded to the main pipe, so what is best way to replace the back box one one of these systems?

Weld another lenght to my new backbox, and cut the old Magnex box off?
