2052006 10 Posted May 16, 2009 I have swapped the inner part of my nearside driveshaft for a xsara vts bit in preparation for fitting in my vts box. However, I'm having trouble securing the rubber gaitor again. Do I need to buy new metal "straps" or whatever they're called. And if so, what's the best way of fitting them? They seem very fiddly and difficult to do up tight enough. I suppose jubilee clips would be a bad idea ? Pete
johnnyboy666 195 1 Cars Posted May 16, 2009 this might be bad advice but cable ties? mine previously had these on and were fine whilst they were on
2052006 10 Posted May 16, 2009 Tried that before on a different driveshaft - leaked a little. Maybe it just wasn't tight enough?
welshpug 1,622 Posted May 16, 2009 (edited) Cheap cable ties wont do, but a decent one you can get a fair tension on is fine. I usually use whatever comes with the boot kit if I'm replacing them, or be careful opening up the old clips and re-use them. a jubilee clip isn't a good idea as it'll add an off-centre weight and introduce an imbalance, which will cause a vibration. 2052006 10 Posted May 16, 2009 That's what I was thinking re the jubilee clips. It is a brand new 1.9 shaft I am butchering, but have managed to bugger the clips up already in my "experimenting". Where can I get new ones from - that's all I need?
