lemmingzappa 75 1 Cars Posted May 4, 2009 I want to get a snap-off steering wheel kit for my 205 but I have no idea what I need to buy. I'd preferably like to carry on using the standard GTi wheel, but I have no idea if that's possible (if not any recommendations) ? If someone could link me to parts I would need to buy that would be great !
Baz 421 Posted May 5, 2009 Not really possible, easily to use the std wheel with one.
GLPoomobile 958 Posted May 6, 2009 I don't think there is any off the shelf solution to using a standard wheel with a quick release boss. If you do want to go thequick release route, you'll need a new wheel, suitable boss, and a quick release kit. For the latter I use an alloy ball bearing one as I had heard about play in the steering with the Snap Off ones. You fit the universal boss to the steering column, then the bottom half of the quick release boss to that. The thin half of the quick release boss is bolted to the back of the steering wheel. To attach, put the wheel in place and rotate it into the right position at which point it will click and lock in. To remove, push in a button to let the sleeve slide back and the wheel pulls off. Baz 421 Posted May 6, 2009 The thin half is actually on the column, the bigger section on the wheel.
engine killer 5 Posted May 6, 2009 these are what you may need. any standard boss mated with the quick release will end up the steering wheel an extra 50mm closer to your body (the whole quick release system is about 50mm in depth, no matter the ball bearing one or the SPA one).
