Spark Only Ignition Help

I have a 1.9 Alloy MI16 Running R1 Carbs and a Dizzy (via big adaptor thing)

The timing never seems to be correct, half the problem is that I think I have a 1.6 dizzy but never mind that. Also I dont think I can rotate the dizzy enough to get the correct advance.

I was looking into a Megajolt set up, but I have never played with any ECU's before so I am uncertain of a few things and wondered if I could have a bit of help to try and clear my head a bit.

I am aware that I need:

- Ecu

- Loom

- Trigger Wheel

- Trigger Sensor

- Ford EDIS Coil Pack

Is this all I need ?

Also, I am not sure if I need a Throttle Position Sensor, if I do, will the one on my R1 carbs suit?

Is there an idiots guide to installing the whole set up anywhere, I understand the basics, but I am still not 100% confident.

How much will the whole set up cost me, I saw on trigger wheels site that you can get a 'kit' for the MI16 for about 250 ish, but wondered if they are available second hand often? Do any of you guys have a set up suitable for sale?

Any advice you can give me would be great.

Thanks

Check out: http://www.autosportlabs.net/Main_Page

Everything you could want to know about installation, operation and the people on the forum are helpful.

I have just installed a V4 into my 8v GTI on bike carbs and it was a doddle.

You will need:

MJLJ ECU & connector/loom - plus optional rev limiter which is a good idea

Trigger wheel

VR (trigger) sensor & loom - you will need to make a mounting bracket for this - from a Mondeo/Fiesta/Escort

EDIS-4 ECU & loom - from a Mondeo/Fiesta/Escort

Coil pack - you can use a Ford one but I used a Peugeot one as it bolts onto the 'stat housing and looks neater

HT leads

Now you can either use MAP or TPS, I chose TPS with carbs because of the extra work needed to create a balance chamber for stable MAP readings.

So you will need a TPS sensor yes and check your R1's may have one on the end, if not find out if Yamaha can fit one

Any more questions please fire away....

...oh and I have all of the above in a kit (V3*) and am willing to sell for the right money. Let me know what you think?

(* V3 is the last gen model but does everything the V4 does, everything, except allow an aux. input to alter the advance, ie coolant sensor)

Forgot to mention the MJLJ also supports dual maps so you can switch on the fly between 2 spark maps, ie one set for 95ron petrol and another for 98 or 102 ron or even race fuel.

There are outputs to control things such as LEDs so you can effectively make your own 5 stage rev/shift light or shift buzzer. They could be used to control anything within reason to either 'come on' or 'go off' at a given rpm, quite cool.

...Oh and with the kit I have it comes with a CD of all the sortware you will need and full installation and operations instructions. I followed these and it worked out magic!

Thanks VERY much Matt.

Your help is awesome!

Can you PM me a price for the kit you have up for grabs and I can mull it over (I was not intending to do this so soon, but if I can afford it...)

Yes, my carbs have a TPS
