DamirGTI 327 Posted April 10, 2009 (edited) Need some help boys , after fitting used Eibach's 7001 i now have what appears to be some kind of spring movement on the struts while turning the steering wheel from lock to lock with the car standing still , or when im driving very slow and turn to the left or right .. when driving moderate/fast i can't hear anything during the cornering and the car drives perfectly over the bumps , it's rock solid driving in straight line , nothing unusual during the braking or hard accelerating everything seems fine except this clonk/sliding sound of spring movement as described above while standing still or during very slow driving (barely moving) .. Now , i have 1 year old Sachs struts all around , i shaved front bump stops prior to fitting these Eibach's (took one circle off the front bumps) , also fresh/new SKF front strut top mount set fitted roughly last year , adjusted wheel alignment (adjusted to zero) , 1year old wishbones etc. etc. As this ones where used springs i didn't have the "rubber sleeves" fitted on the spring coils , so i mount them without these “sleeves” , can i blame this spring movement because of that perhaps ?! Thanks ! Damir EDIT : oh , and i fitted them with the closer wound coils up ! Edited April 10, 2009 by DamirGTI

Henry Yorke 269 3 Cars Posted April 12, 2009 Strut top bearing I guess
Ajr 0 Posted April 12, 2009 Yep that's always it, if the top spring pan can't rotate freely relative to the top mount then it turns the spring, and can even dislocate the spring in extreme cases!
DamirGTI 327 Posted April 12, 2009 ... was under impression that you're not interested in this subject !! Yes , it didn't work on the first attempt , but afterwards i tried one more time and this time - i drove the car on a straight/level parking lot , undone all the top mount nuts , lighted up the ciggy and started turning the steering wheel lock to lock (i've done at least ten spinning sessions lock to lock !) .. afterwards , i placed the wheels straight ahead , tighten the mount nuts back and since then theres no more popping/moving/sliding sound Damir
jimistdt 1 Posted April 12, 2009 Would it have worked out if you hadn't lit the ciggy?
MerlinGTI 3 Posted April 12, 2009 Would it have worked out if you hadn't lit the ciggy? Nope, things always work after a ciggy. Seriously!
