Fox 3 Posted April 4, 2009 My cars been parked up in the garage for a few weeks now, and yesterday I noticed a puddle of brake fluid on the floor, dropping out from the rear drum. Is this due to a leaking cylinder? I suppose i'll need new shoes as well now if they are covered in fluid? The brakes still feel hard when pressing down on them, time for a disked rear beam I think! Can't really be anything but the cylinder... When one of mine went I replaced the whole lot inside there, cylinder, shoes, springs and the handbrake ratchet part too. Maybe you could clean it all up, not sure. But while its apart you might as well do it as you'll not want to take it apart again!! Cost me a ton in parts and took AGES, like you say, get some disks Having said that there is meant to be a lever you can move to make it easy to take the drum off... I never got it working and ended up in a right mess.

Rom 0 Posted April 4, 2009 Fluid will attack the shoes, but if its not much, or been on there for long, try some brake cleaner on it. In an ideal world you would replace the, but ive done plenty over the years and reused shoes. Plus i despise doing shoes, so i avoid them like the plague !
