pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2009 i got a set of pads(only cheapies for now) from fleebay for the 205,they were listed to fit a 1.6gti and a 1.9gti? with bendix callipers. also i think they are supposed to fit base models. they look fine but seeing as i have long lost the old pads i cant compare or even remember the correct fitment of them. the pads fit fine and i have a fitting kit too (springs and shims etc.), the problem is they do not sit flush with the out edge of the calliper as ther is a little lug stopping them(circled in pic). have i got the wrong pads? calliper. pad
welshpug 1,626 Posted March 5, 2009 have you tried them in there with the retaining clips?
EdCherry 34 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) Look like 1.9 pads I think, which would be girling and not bendix. Edited March 5, 2009 by EdCherry
welshpug 1,626 Posted March 5, 2009 no, they are definitely bendix pads.
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2009 is there a certain side the clips go on?
bouver 0 Posted March 5, 2009 Sometimes I have had trouble fitting cheap pads. I have had to alter the shape a little with a file. Pattern parts are sometimes made by Stevie Wonder. Be careful though, make sure that the locating pin holds them in securely.
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2009 right the only way i can get the pad to fit flush is like this: with the clips fitted its pretty close: i think it may have to be a little bit of 'altering' to get them to fit
Baz 421 Posted March 5, 2009 They look fine to me, i've never noticed that lug, neither a cut-out in 1.6 pads!
welshpug 1,626 Posted March 5, 2009 the sliding bar goes at the trailing edge of the pad, i.e the top on the front bendix caliper, and the bottom on the rear. the springs go over the leading edge.
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2009 (edited) They look fine to me, i've never noticed that lug, neither a cut-out in 1.6 pads! after going on brakeparts.co.uk it seems there are two types for the 1.6, a symetrical set (like mine) and a non-symetrical set which looks like it has a cut out for the lug. think ill just bodge these for now just to get it back together then get the correct set later on will this be safe? like this Edited March 5, 2009 by pugpete1108
Jrod 7 Posted March 5, 2009 I'd never bodge brakes.
jimistdt 1 Posted March 5, 2009 I'd never bodge brakes. +
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted March 5, 2009 +1 i dont mean bodge them as in dangerous, i mean just remove enough of the rear plate (2-3mm max) to allow for the fitment around the lug
welshpug 1,626 Posted March 6, 2009 I'd send them back for the offset ones
Tom Fenton 1,526 Posted March 6, 2009 YOU DON'T BODGE BRAKES. Get the proper pads.
rubyna 4 1 Cars Posted March 6, 2009 Dont take the risk mate, for the sake of a few quid it just aint worth it you know it makes sense.. Luke
pugdamo 111 2 Cars Posted March 6, 2009 I had this issue on a 205 XS,i had cheapie pads and the lug on the caliper was holdong the pad off centre,i just groung the lug off as it doesnt seem to serve a purpose. They are definatly Bendix pads. And as Welshpug says is the right way to fit them.
jplautomotive 0 Posted March 6, 2009 i had the same thing when i got my mintex pads when had stock 1.6 brakes bought the ones you show first , but needed the ones in the drawing jonny
pugpete1108 62 1 Cars Posted March 7, 2009 i did consider grinding the lugs off, then thought whats the point like you said for a few quid. just ordered a set of ofset ones (genuine bendix ones too) for like 12quid or something off fleebay. so if anyone wants a set of non ofset pads let me know.
