AdamP 0 Posted March 1, 2009 I've dismantled my PAS steering rack this weekend to clean it, check for wear and re-grease. How the hell do I remove the passenger side track rod? How does the funny rubber boot come off?
philfingers 5 Posted March 2, 2009 Just pulls off. You need to remove the metal sleeve somehow. Can't remember to be honest but it was simple enough to do
AdamP 0 Posted March 3, 2009 Which metal sleeve is that? Anyone got a servicebox diagram of how it comes apart, they appear to have removed my access?!
AdamP 0 Posted March 3, 2009 Managed to get back onto servicebox.... found this picture: Its number 12 that's the issue.
miamichris 9 Posted March 3, 2009 you can remove the track rod with a big pair of stilsons or water pump pliars. the ball part (where you want to grab with the stilsons) of the track rod is under a small boot, but if you damage this boot its a trip to peugeot for a new one i'm afraid. I'll see if I can find a pic to explain this a bit better mate.
miamichris 9 Posted March 3, 2009 Sorry, I read your post again and see that you know about the small boot. I ripped mine trying to get it off so just bought a new one from pug so thats probably not much use to you! I never figured out how to get the ring off. The ring goes round the small boot and has a threaded stud coming off it holdiing the PAS ram on. If that makes sense!
AdamP 0 Posted March 3, 2009 I got the one side off with molegrips on the washer and pipe wrench on the ball joint. Its the boot I want to get off without damaging. How did your broken boot come off in the end?
miamichris 9 Posted March 3, 2009 It was that long ago I stripped my subframe I can't remember really mate. I think I used a hammer and screwdriver to knock it off the rack. I have a new one in the garage and i'm in the middle of rebuilding my subframe so i'll have to figure out how the new one goes on soon! The new boot has a hard plastic ring in the rubber where it is slipped over the rack, so it must be a tight fit or possibly sealed/stuck on with sealant maybe? miamichris 9 Posted March 7, 2009 come on, tell us how you did it!
AdamP 0 Posted March 7, 2009 (edited) Am i not supposed to keep the secret? Basically... hammer and screw driver between the rubber and metal! It was just a very very tight fit So now i've rubbed down and painted the track rods, cleaned all the other bits, regreased it and reassembled it!
