Any Sand Blaters In The Midlands?

Recommended Posts

NickMi

Hello everyone my name is Nick and i am new to the forum,

I am building a track car and i think sand blasting the shell is my best option to get it back to bare metal. Just wondered if anyone knew of any good sand blasters in the Midlands?

There's a place called surface processing I think they're called in Sedgley. They advertise in some of the mags. They do acid dipping and blasting I think. pretty good by all accounts I think

here you go!

Those guys are fantastic, but they are VERY expensive because their job is so good.

If you can spend that on the shell, then don't hesitate because your shell will last forever (statement made in total understanding that the future is unpredictable and no one will ever check this statement up when the car is falling apart again!) :P

Dipping gets everywhere, blasting only gets where they can fire it.

Why do you want it bare metal ?

Thanks everone for your fast replys,

The reason for bare metal is that i want to build a seriously mint track car. I have the time and space plus almost all the parts.

They wanted £700 to dip my shell which is a bit steep for me. Bare metal by hand looks like far too much work

Does 700 quid just cover being dipped or being dipped and then primed? Or Zinc plated?

I think that's the way I'd go, for £700 you could buy a nice compressor a heap of air tools and some sand blast kit!

not sure how good this would be but http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sealey-SB993-Shot-Gr...A1%7C240%3A1318

if your going to do it yourself then put your shell in a empty swimming pool or something similar as it gets everywhere :o

soda blasting is the way to go as it doesnt damage the metal costs about 500 pound for the whole car

There is a powder coaters on the blackpole trading estate that have the industrial sand blasters but dont know if they could cater for a whole car in there, and the system that you could buy the total loss systems the sand does get everywhere! I am currently working at a bodyshop with a sand blaster and obviously all equipment. Just bare shelling a triumph GT6 at the mo. Very reasonable rates. P.m if you want a number to call us on.

I wouldn't advise doing it yourself, by the time you've forked out for the blasting equipment and a decent air compressor you'll probably have spent more than you would have by getting it done properly. If it were me, I'd also get it dipped rather than blasted as they can galvanise it while they're at it.

Not found one local that specialises in sandblasting cars, well not for less than £600 anyway.

The thing is that my work is a huge garage with plenty of space outside to blast my car and we have got a massive compressor aswel.

So i might have a go myself but i am now considering renting a industrial sand blaster

Renting one would be a much better idea. You'll need to get it painted immediately after too!
