Gti-6 Front Brake Conversion

Recommended Posts

Guest Wheres_my_wig

Quick question, Im going for the GTI6 front brake conversion, with gti6 master cylinder and keeping the rears standard with new disks and pads... also looking at getting a set of braided hoses. Are the kits for the 205 gti 1.9 going to fit the gti6 calipers or vice versa. Im just not sure which ones to go for. any idea would be welcome. Great threads on all this by the way!!

they wont fit the fronts as they will be too short iirc.

Miles does longer ones and they are very good.

You need any special tools to make your own? Didn't realise there was a diy option!

nope

some 11-13 brake spanners (normal ones will do the job though)

think blade on an angle grinder, or a VERY sharp metal chisel (hammed for chisel too)

masking tape (to wrap the braid before cutting stops fraying)

tiny screw drvier or bradol to open up braid

thats it i think :)

This is good news! Will definately give this a go as i need custom legths so off the shelf kits will be no good. Can anyone reccommend somewhere cheap to get all the neccercary bits and bobs from?

cheers, your help is appreciated!!

How much further do the Gti 6 calipers sit ?

My hoses fit fine with 307 Hdi calipers.

are the braided 1.9 gti hoses shorter than the original rubber ones then? as i have fitted '6' brakes on my laser with standard 1.9 hoses and not had any problems with them

No the braided standerd lines are the same length

the normal hose will fit and do the job

but

upon extremes of steering and or suspension travel the hose may get pulled or stretchd which in extreme cases cause failure of the hose

this may also if pickd up on lead to an mot failure

mine certainly arent stretched to the extreme on full lock or on maximum suspension droop, there still quite plyable, and im an mot tester.

I cannot recall the HDI caliper from memory but it's not far off the Gti6 one, I know there's not allot in it so the little extra length makes a huge differance but then again aftermarket std hoses might be different too knowing what there like,

Having seen the GTi6 one's on std hoses it does give a slight bend on full lock on full droop not something I'd be happy with and hence why any converted car I fit these 2 get's these pipe's, May sound like a sales pitch but for the money it's hardly making me anything

As miles says

id rather spend or advise you spend a few quid to do the job correctly than run the risk of a brake hose failure
