Rust On Floor Under Rear Seat

Recommended Posts

Dave_McC

I've got a bit of rust on the offside side of the floor under the rear seat - near where the metal tab is bolted which locates the rear seat base. I've got the fuel tank dropped at the moment as I've just replaced the front to rear rigid brake line - so decided to deal with the rust while the tank's still out.

Took a wire brush to it this afternoon and it looks like it's double skinned - the inner skin seems to have rusted right through, but the outer skin seems intact. Is this right? And if so presume I'm ok taking back to clean metal then simply treating with Kurust and then priming and top coat - without needing to get someone to weld it (as I can't weld....).

Cheers

Dave

yes and no. I did mine last few weeks. If you've got the tank out then you should be able to see how it is. There's a web that runs from rear suspension area. Water gets in and rots it, inside out. I plated mine from above and then got it back to bare clean metal underneath, put some Jenolite on it, then etch primer( brushed it on), then used a Shultz gun to spray the whole lot with HB underseal which I got for £2.50 a can.
