mattw 2 Posted December 30, 2008 Hi, The battery on my track car has gone, resulting in me having to jump my car if I need to move it (obviously not the best for the car). I'm looking to get a replacement but I'm unsure as to what to get. Are there any specific batteries that are better when left for longish periods of time (can be up to 8 weeks) or should I just buy a normal one from halfords and invest in a trickle charger? I would rather not keep taking the battery in and out of the car. Cheers, Matt
welshpug 1,627 Posted December 30, 2008 just a standard 063 battery should do the trick, if its draining in short periods you may have a drain to investigate. why not fit a Discarnect?
mattw 2 Posted December 30, 2008 What does that do?
Rom 0 Posted December 30, 2008 Kills feed from battery to car. Apart from the small fused link for radio if you want. So you unscrew that knob, and the battery isnt connected anymore. If its garaged, a trickle charger could work also. Would be my choice.
djinuk 2 Posted December 30, 2008 i just borught a new battery for my r5 from halfords, 4 year warranty, and it seems ideal , i payed about £40 on trade for it, if it fails ill just keep taking it back.
16v205 9 Posted December 30, 2008 Just get a halfords one if youve got a trade discount card, my battery was a few months old then stood for 2 years whilst I rebuilt the car and it still works fine. Rich
Cameron 16 Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) If its a track car you won't need to worry about the radio. I've got some quick release connectors on mine so just pop them off and take the battery out when I'm not using the car. Edit, how much trade discount do you get on Halfords batteries? If its anything like the amount you get on wiper blades that would be awesome! Edited December 30, 2008 by Cameron
Rom 0 Posted December 30, 2008 I thought it was a flate rate? Like 10% or whatever ? Havent really used my card since i got it tbh. If its pure track, what about a lightweight battery
munster 0 Posted December 30, 2008 (edited) Am i right in thinking that a battery from a diesel car will give more power? (obviously not in a bhp sense ) Edited December 30, 2008 by munster
jplautomotive 0 Posted December 30, 2008 Edit, how much trade discount do you get on Halfords batteries? Cameron 16 Posted December 31, 2008 Nice! Might even be worth buying batteries to flog on eBay! Yeah a Diesel battery will give more Amps, but also be bulkier and heavier. Only really necessary if you have a rooooooodboi ICE setup.

floodys 4 1 Cars Posted August 13, 2009 just on the subject of the battery, i need one for my track car, is it worth getting a gel battery or just a standad halfords one? i have a trade card and can get a 063 for £37!!! i want to relocate it to the boot too so wondered if better to use a sealed/gel battery?? what do you track guys use?? cheers
large 33 Posted August 14, 2009 I would use a dry cell battery if you are fitting it in the car. As wet batterys give off gas that can kill.
SurGie 54 Posted August 14, 2009 I did not realise that, good to know for when i get round to fitting one in the boot. Cheers
engine killer 5 Posted August 14, 2009 I would use a dry cell battery if you are fitting it in the car. As wet batterys give off gas that can kill. in order to make it safer, I have a hose connected to the battery box and smaller hoses plugged in to the venting ports of the battery to vent any vapour out of the car compartment. Picture attached and you can see there is a hose on the left hand side.
SurGie 54 Posted August 15, 2009 Is that a normal battery or the dry cell one ? Where does the ends of the pipes go to ? Cheers
large 33 Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) Its a wet cell (normal) by the looks of it the pipe just goes out of the car to air. I would fit a dry cell first as last for about £90 you will get one you could fit under your seat. I would put a link up (if I knew how ). just go on ebay and search dry cell battery.
