Ma Sun & Planet Gears

Well as they say you learn something new everyday,

So upon looking at my Mates son's MA gearbox as it striped the teeth on the Sun & Planet Gears, I thought great I have spares and can get him back on the road, Bugger seem's like the 1999 yr box (Non GTi) uses smaller gears than the spares I had, 205 XS and Early 106 GTi,

 

Question is are all the later boxes like this or Just the base models, Seem's daft to me using 2 different size Diff cases

I'm pretty sure it's the 1.6 models that use the larger diff gearsets - If you look on ServiceBox the 1.6 models use a different size to the other gearboxes.

The diff is bigger on 1.6 sets as stated above, the casing is the same though, and you can swap the crownwheels between bigger and smaller diffs.

 

Only really early(pre 1992) gearboxes used a totally different MA box.
