Is There A Difference Between A 1.6gti And 1.9gti Back Axel?

Recommended Posts

Hi, as title says -

Are the back axel (including brakes etc) exactly the same for a 1991 1.6 205 Gti and a 1992 1.9 205 GTi?

Straight swap or will i have to change any parts?

Cheers

the brakes, stub axles, and front mounting brackets are different, all interchangeable though.

Cheers :)

What about a 309 back axel? I dont know anything about them unfortunately. Never seen one.

I assume they come in a 1.9 version that would be straight swap?

309 rear axel's are often fitted to give the car a wider track, will fit though

I think it might be worth saying why you're asking as ANY rear axle will fit any 205. A 1.9GTi has rear disc brakes vs drums of the 1.6. The 309 setup will bolt on too but it's wider and it's also quite a bit stiffer
