djinuk 2 Posted October 30, 2008 I have been looking at some ford escort bits and bobs and came across a carbon fibre roof on one the place that does it say so long you have a good roll cage fitted they can actually cut the roof out and the carbon fibre one bonded on, he also tells me at the edge it will be less than 1mm think meaning a very small protrusion.. I spoke to the guy and hes interested in venturing into the market on the 205's if there is interest in doing any carbon fibre bits and bobs. Paintguy 0 Posted October 30, 2008 I hate to burst your bubble, but a 205 roof skin is a whole different kettle of fish to an Escort one. Practically speaking, there was a whole long winded thread on here about them and not one was made. I sold a superbly made one with all the badge backing removed etc for £30 on ebay inc badge. Batfink 201 Posted October 31, 2008 there may be some gain to centre of gravity but its not going to be massive. It would certainly be possible to make a carbon roof. The only way to fix it would be to bond it on. There are products available that this carbon guy will no doubt be already using. Only thing is where the roof joins onto the A pillars and C pillars it will look very messy. Personally I dont think its worth even considering. Streamline carbon have made one for the 106 and its only real use is for show (though its halved the roof weight) It cannot be used for competition as virtually every race series does not allow them. This sort of changed Bics plans to race his 106 in anything but Time Attack which is a shame. As the 205's owners are more into cost effective performance rather than show i think the market is virtually nill. Also for a sunroof plate i'd prefer Kevlar or Kevlar carbon. Its cheaper and wont splinter in an accident and is less likely to allow objects through into the cabin area in the event of a roll or other accident. Batfink 201 Posted October 31, 2008 you can get a plain sheet of carbon from anywhere but to have a smooth look a mould will need to be made.
