I have a CTI and it has 1.9 alloys with 195 45 15 tyres. F1 tyres are £10 cheaper at size 195 50 15's

What difference will this make?

My gear box is a turbo desiel one I believe.

I don't know about the CTi, but the GTi correct tyre size is 185/55 R15. But like most I have gone for 195/50 R15 because they are cheaper and a bit wider.

I can't see you noticing the difference between a 195/45 and a 195/50 to be honest.

as above, 185 55 15 is the correct size.

Go for 195/50/15's, This will give you a slightly better ride

Even with my "old man" driving style 45s seem very slidey under power on the front - I believe this is due to less flex in the sidewall? - hated this profile on my GTi and CTi.

PS - have you seen the "SW meet" thread? hopefully for Nov?

Less give as Steve says, and, more road noise, harsher ride etc.

195/50's are the new 185/55's. (WP, oop yer arse! :) )

Hi I tried 195/45/15 and found the ride to be harder and a lot noisier than my other 195/50/15's. So I decided to stick with 50's over 45's as they fill the arches better and give a great ride and top handling. But be aware every tyre differs from one make to another and you my find that whilst one make is noisy another is not. I love the look of my 195/50's so I would recommend you go for those. Do a search on what tyres to choose depending on your driving style and the weather and go from there mate.

ps, I had a set of budget Bavaris tyres on my wheels when I got them and whilst they were quiet, they were s**t in the wet and slid all over the place. The only up side was they smelt nice when they smoked, but then they only smoked cause they had no grip. So money buys quality, and quality means performance, and performance is what the 205 is all about so...

At the risk of stating the obvious a little more...

Do a search, there's a big tyre topic recently. :)

I have 195/45 on mine but i think i'm gonna go for the 195/50 as the the ride at the mo is quite hard.

Changing to 50 is much better. I have just put on some toyo t1-r and they are fantastic so far. search tyre choice for a big topic on tyres.
