What Colour Do I Dye My Trimmings?

Right, another trait of owning a 20 year old car is the fading exterior trimmings.

 

On my GTI which is graphite grey, they are particularly faded on the arches and bumper. So I have seen this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Plasticare-Trim-Dye-...DVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZ

ViewItem on ebay. It's been recommended by a mate who says it's really good stuff.

 

Only dilemma now is deciding whether to go for a oem grey dye, or the more aggressive looking black dye. I'm edging towards the black as I fancy something different and have a dark coloured car.

 

Opinions please?

Painted de textured black (same as the rest of the car).

 

Owned a Black 205 GTI 2 years ago like this. Gutted i got rid of the arches for my now current Black 205 as it looked lovely!

Think thats made my mind up. I take it once applied it won't be total black, but a very dark grey?

 

Also, how do the red bits pop off? I'm gonna mask the car up and leave the trimming on, as the dye is applied via cloth, but want to remove the red bits and put them back on afterwards.

I think black looks best, when I did mine i used this stuff from ebay (item 150288111445), very easy to use and works very well.

I cheated abit i used phase 2 black trims! but i sprayed the bumpers black with hycote black bumper paint.

Just wondering guys, how do you just remove the red centre strips in the trimmings. As mentioned previously, I'm leaving the trimmings on for the sake of hassle, but wish to remove only the red bits if possible?

actually, gentry ones are supposed to be dark green from stock.

 

but they bleach, which looks dull, so i refurbished mine in black, too.

looks far better anyway, IMO.

I'm constantly amazed at what some people think are faded trim.......when they look like my bumpers, then maybe its time to do something about it!!!

I promise to do something about it before I let it back out on the road!!

 

Just need to rebuild the engine first! I bought it in May....total milage in my ownership...the 3 miles home!

Glad i saw this post - i was looking at buying new bumpers (2nd hand but in good con) but hell, ive got a red car and always been a fan of black on red

Yeah it is. As long as you can use a paintbrush, or cloth and be accurate, it's easy. Use masking tape like I did if you don't want to remove anything.

I bought some Plasticare dye via eBay and have now used it. It's utterly brilliant and my front bumper looks like new. Various rain storms have left no marks. Recommended.
